When County Lines Magazine recently featured the growing interest in professional pet portraiture, it confirmed something I've been witnessing for years. Dogs are no longer "just pets" set into the backyard to live in a doghouse. They're part of our daily routines, our traditions, our families, and some of our best memories.

One of the reasons I launched DubC Dog Portraits was because I wanted to create images and art that reflected more than those everyday snapshots.

I wanted people to look at an image and immediately say...

"That's exactly who they are."

Some dogs walk into the studio with confidence and seem completely at home in front of the camera. Others need twenty minutes just to sniff every corner of the room before they're ready to acknowledge me.

Both approaches are perfectly fine.

I've photographed dogs that wouldn't sit still for more than two seconds, senior dogs who moved slowly but watched every movement with wise, gentle eyes, and rescue dogs who simply needed a little extra patience before they trusted a stranger holding a camera.

Those moments can't be rushed.

The best, organic portraits happen when we stop asking a dog to perform and instead allow them to simply be themselves.

It Starts Long Before the Camera Comes Out

Every DubC Dogs session begins with a conversation.

I want to know about your dog.

Do they love tennis balls? Are they motivated by treats...or squeaky toys?

Do they have a favorite park or space to play in?

Understanding those little details helps shape the entire session. Every dog brings a different energy, and every portrait should reflect that.

Sometimes that means dramatic studio lighting that creates a bold statement piece.

Sometimes it means heading outdoors at a park or home property to capture them where they're happiest.

There isn't a formula...and that's exactly the way it should be.

DubC Dogs was inspired by two very special rescue dogs who never left.

After four years of fostering, my family and I experienced what happens to many foster families....foster failure, but it’s the best kind of failure at that.

Twice.

Scout and Sylvia from Philly Bully Team found their forever home with us, and they also helped shape the mission behind DubC Dogs.

Today, a portion of every portrait session supports local rescue and foster organizations working every day to help more dogs find families of their own. Clients can even designate the rescue they'd like to support, making each session part of something a little bigger than creating beautiful artwork.
